Japan Proposes to Designate Potassium Acetate as a Food Additive and Establish Related Specifications
On September 1, 2026, Japan's Consumer Affairs Agency (CAA) launched a public consultation on draft amendments to the Cabinet Office Order for the Enforcement Regulation of the Food Sanitation Act and the Cabinet Office Notification amending the Specifications and Standards for Foods, Food Additives, etc. The proposals would newly designate potassium acetate as a food additive and establish specifications for the substance. The public consultation period runs from September 1 to October 1, 2026.

U.S. FDA Seeks Comments on Third-Party Disclosure and Recordkeeping Requirements for Reportable Food
On August 17, 2026, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) published a notice seeking public comments on the information collection associated with the "Third Party Disclosure and Recordkeeping Requirements for Reportable Food." The deadline for submitting comments is October 16, 2026. The notice does not establish a new food regulation; rather, it concerns FDA's information collection requirements under section 417 of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FD&C Act).

Australia Proposes Revisions to Maximum Residue Limits for 1,4-Dimethylnaphthalene, Carboxin and Other Pesticides in Foods
On August 25, 2026, the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) published Gazette No. 17, 2026, proposing to incorporate a number of recently approved changes to maximum residue limits (MRLs) for agricultural and veterinary chemicals into Schedule 20 of the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code. The proposed changes cover various pesticides, including 1,4-dimethylnaphthalene, carboxin, cyantraniliprole, diafenthiuron, and fludioxonil.
